bauhaus magazine no. 1: artist, march 2011
Bauhaus, The Magazine of The Bauhaus Dessau Foundation, Issue 1: Artist from March 2011
After 80 years Bauhaus magazine came back into existence from the same creators. It originally started in 1926 coinciding with the opening of Walter Gropius' classic Bauhaus building in Dessau. The magazine then, touched on modern trends of the time in art and design. The current magazine is bi-annual, includes essays, interviews and more addressing issues of design in the present day environment on an international platform. Each year a different graphic designer is chosen to create two issues.
This issue focuses on the 'artist' as "as generalist, programmer, researcher, pedagogue, teacher, curator and aesthetician." It is primarily in German, but the English translation is located on the exterior of the magazine as a smaller encasing zine.
Includes articles on Kurt Kranz, Josef Albers, Paul Klee, Olaf Nicolai, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Matthias Sauerbruch & more.
