Chance Operations by Todd Webb
Chance Operations is a collection of experimental comic strips by cartoonist & musician Todd Webb. Webb used chance operations (a method popularized by composer John Cage) procedures to determine placement of texts and images from different sources within the frame of a comic strip. The resulting comics work on many different levels, forming poetic observances of the every day. It's a nice display of an alternative way to generate ideas for new work.
Warren Craghead, author of How to be Everywhere, said this of the book:
"Conceptually focused and stunningly drawn, Chance Operations is a radical and beautiful experiment you can't stop looking at. After reading one sees connections, narratives and beauty everywhere- this work helps me see the world as comics and makes me want to draw."
