Into Performance: Japanese Women Artists in New York (used) by Midori Yoshimoto
Into Performance: Japanese Women Artists in New York by Midori Yoshimoto
Rutgers University Press, 2005
This book is used, but is in very good shape overall; corners slightly bumped, ink marks on fore edge of textblock, some dog-eared pages, but clean and strong binding.
This book highlights a specific and well-deserved gap in both American and Japanese 1960's art history with the focus on five female Japanese artists- Yoko Ono, Yayoi Kusama, Takako Saito, Mieko Shiomi and Shigeko Kubota. All five bravely set out to New York to further their possibilities in an art world that was more experimental than the one in Japan at the time. The book explores their transformations into internationally known artists as well as their impact on the avant-garde movements of the time and into the future.
