Marcel Duchamp Retrospective Exhibition Catalog (original) 1973
This is a catalog of a Marcel Duchamp retrospective exhibition organized by the Philadelphia Museum of Art (1973) and the Museum of Modern Art, New York (1974). The exhibit also traveled to the Art Institute of Chicago in 1974. The catalog includes a foreward by the museum directors (Richard E. Oldenburg of MoMA & Evan H. Turner of PMA), as well as an essay about Marcel Duchamp by Anne d'Harnoncourt. The essay includes a few black and white images of Duchamp's works. Also in the catalog is a complete listing of works in the exhibition.
The cover & back cover images are a 1956 design by Marcel Duchamp for a book called Modern Art U.S.A. by Rudi Blesh. The publisher rejected the design as a "bad joke". The cover is a visual pun on the idea of a book jacket.
