Nomadic Furniture by James Hennessey & Victor Papanek
Nomadic Furniture: DIY Projects that are Lightweight and Light on the Environment by James Hennessey and Victor Papanek
This book, originally published in 1973, is a manual for creating furniture and interior structures that are light weight, easy to make, move, store, destroy & easy on the environment. Pre-IKEA, this book was good for people who moved often and wanted an easy alternative to the bulky possessions of the household. Included are how-to's and illustrations for seating options, eating & working solutions, storage, sleeping, lighting, furniture for babies & children, etc. Hand-written text for the most part, it's easy to read and follow. Inspirational ideas for making furniture for small spaces, shared spaces and for today's young people who seem to move every year or two.
Victor Papanek was a designer, educator & strong advocate for responsible design. He wrote the book Design for the Real World, and was a UNESCO International design expert.
