There are many male artists whose legacies romanticize the creative genius in self-immolation and destruction (Burrows, Bukowski, Cobain). Their nihilist lack of regard for self-preservation allows the full immersion in creative subversion, beyond the confines of ethics and social norms.  In contrast, women artists must play their cards carefully, balancing the creative impulse against the need for social acceptance that they have been groomed to cater to.  But Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, of the band TLC, who died too early in 2022,  was not one of these women. These shirts feature the mugshot taken the night she was jailed for burning down her boyfriend’s mansion, her act of retaliation for his physical abuse. This shirt is an ode to the female anger that burns, and creation in the act of destruction.
